Tornado Victims Assisted by Rotary

The Rotary Club of Manassas, VA recently partnered with three Jackson, TN Rotary Clubs to assist tornado victims at Union University.
The Tennessee-based Rotary clubs identified students most desperately in need at the Universtiy: "Missionary Kids" and International Students who had begun the school year with the least amount of funds and belongings and who had then been left with virtually only the clothes on their backs following the tornado.
The MK's, as they are called on campus, each have parents serving on missionary fields around the globe. The parents of these students are given minimum salaries for sustenance and their wages vary depending upon the country in which they are serving. One of the student's parents receive only $500.00 a month. Obviously there is not much, if anything, left over to help support a child attending school at Union.
None of these students have been able to leave Jackson since the tornado because they have no financial means to reach their families and most of these students do not own a vehicle. Their typical transportation is by bicycle, walking, or by catching rides with friends.
The Rotary Club of Manassas donated $6000 and the amount was matched by the Tennessee Clubs for a total donation of $13,000.
Tennessee Rotarians donate funds including those raised by the Manassas Rotary Club to Union University's Senrio Vice-President.
